Children's groups are the backbone of many clubs around Barcelona. In the city, Torrenegra, Tres Peons, Congrés, Sant Martí, Vila Olímpica, Peona i Peó, L'Espiga de Les Corts, Escacs Comtal and Catalunya Escacs Club teach young players by level on weekday afternoons, and GLOP Club in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi arranges classes by appointment. Dos Torres in Sant Cugat offers free classes for the very youngest.

In the towns around the city, the clubs of Cornellà, Sant Cugat, Badalona, Castelldefels, Sant Boi, Sant Joan Despí, Montcada i Reixac, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Gavà and L'Hospitalet run youth schools of their own, some with summer classes or a children's tournament at the local festival.
